"Young Goodman Doomfiste" striding the back roads of New York, Pennsylvania, and Northern New Jersey ever vigilant lest Satan's Bouncers gain foote holde, etc. A pen and ink done sitting around the kitchen table instead of taking care of any number of householde duties.

Drawing the wrong Harley Quinn
So my son finally started playing Arkham Asylum on his X-Box .... I've enjoyed watching. Phrases like: "Hit 'em again, Joe!" and "Use the Batarang, damnit!" fill the living room. Anyways, I was impressed by the new character design on Harley Quinn; a little grimier, a little sluttier- all things a mother hopes for her daughter. It inspired me to draw her, mind you, while I'm watching, the reference is in front of me, and I get it completely wrong! Things like that really rattles my confidence in my memory. I obviously don't remember what a Tommy-Gun looks like, either!

HellBent
I drew this last October, but I up and inked it last week. A block away from where I work is a real kick-ass body shop specializing in jacked-up auto body kick-assism. In warmer months the rear garage-door is usually open and I can see the dudes hangin out on the ramp as I drive by in my bitchin' Dodge Caravan. Above is the dress code.
If I had a cane, I'd wag it those mega-ne'er-do-wells.

Pokemon Pre-Release
I took my son to a Pokemon Pre-Release a few weeks ago, introducing the new line of "Black & White" cards. The kids are always excited because they get 6 or 8 packs of the new cards, from which they construct the strongest decks they can, then "battle" each other in a mini-tournament. I took the opportunity to sketch.
Upper image; multiple views of the guy who runs these things locally. Has a good rapport with the kids. I've never seen him when he's not eating the worst form of cheese-laden fast food.
Same page; Girl in the lower left corner, if I were to accurately capture her color, I'd just apply black to her t-shirt and orange to her hair, everything else would match. I'd go do that now if it didn't involve having to find my colored pencils, then I'd probably have to sharpen them and stuff- forget it.

Another, Almost
This relates to the previous post below, in my attempt to draw what I think is a grotesque, only to finish and realize, well it's not too far off the mark. This is a fun exercise, at least for me, finding the most unflattering expression in the mirror and sketching the result. Is it just me or is one eye lower than the other- dammit!!

Captain America
I take my son to a comic book store every other week (following my payday). I'll pick up a few titles although there's nothing I follow regularly. Who can follow comics these days? Every character has a dozen titles attached to it. It's rare that an artist or writer stays on a book for more than a few issues, so there's no feeling of continuity or community for that matter. Most comicbook artists I'm familiar with are dead now anyways. sigh.
It's funny, I'll sit down and make an attempt at real exaggeration, and when I'm finished with a drawing I find everything looks in the neighborhood of realism. I've tried caricature as well, with similar results.
